Muay Thai is referred to as the "Science of Eight Limbs" as the hands, shins, elbows and knees are all used extensively in this art.
Words to Remember
Wai Kru: [Respect to teacher ceremony] is performed before each Muay Thai match. With traditional music, this choreographed dance is a vital part of the tradition of Muay Thai and as a preparation for the fighter.

Elbow Techniques (dehee sork) are used in 7 ways; horizontal, diagonal-upwards, diagonal downwards, uppercut, downward, backwards spinning, and flying
Tang Kao: "Stabbing knee". This is often called thrust knee or long knee. Tang means stab and Kao means knee

The belts of Thai Kickboxing are extremely important for several reasons. First of all, they they help the instructors know what level you are at. That way then they can provide you with the appropriate amount of coaching and detailed instruction. Secondly, and perhaps most important, they help you stay focussed on your goal. They are a constant reminder where you are in the program and where you are headed; Black Belt Excellence!

Every day when you've finished your workout, you place a stripe on the tip of your belt. This indicates that you have taken a Thai Kickboxing class. After 16 stripes and two consecutive months of training, you've earned your reward ... a brand new belt! Students from White Belt to Purple Belt test after 16 classes and 2 months. Students from Red Belt to Brown Tip test every 3 months and 24 classes. Bo-Blacks test every month and earn one stripe on the back of their belt (no daily stripes). Bo-Blacks also must demonstrate the 15 move Pride Form. Finally, Bo-Blacks must demonstrate 75 push-ups at each of the monthly exams. After one year in Bo-Black, your ready for a Real Black Belt!
