The ABCs of Self Defense

A Always be Aware - Know who's around you, where you are and how to get away. If you're aware of your surroundings you might be able to prevent a bad thing from happening to you

B Breathe and be calm - take slow deep breathes. Stay focused and breathe

C be Confident - Have a good posture and body language. Make eye contact, stand tall, move quickly and confidently.

D Don't make things worse. Don't go with a stranger, get into an unknown car, go into an alley. Stay in public places or where people can see you.

E If confronted, look for an Escape - Run to a public place, a neighbor or anywhere you might find someone to help you. An attacker doesn't want to be recognized. Create a distraction as an opportunity to escape.

F If necessary Fight - Fight as hard as you can so you can get away. Use punches, kicks, a weapon, don't be passive. Hit eyes, nose, mouth, throat or groin. Fight till you can escape.

G Get Help - Once away, go to a parent, teacher or someone in authority. Explain what happen so that this person can be stopped.
